Yet another cover! Votre Maison - Hiver 2010

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

I started shooting for Votre Maison earlier this year and this is my first edition with them. The magazine hit the shelves this past September and here I am on the cover!

THIS was actually my first published cover, as it came out prior to the Fall edition of Maison d’Aujourd’hui, just by a few weeks. OK, OK…so I lied…

I was a little disappointed (but still excited) when I received my copy in the mail, since I was expecting a different photo on the cover. Several of the shots I had taken were contenders, but I had not expected this one, since it was a landscape shot. “What a funny crop” I said to myself. But regardless, I was happy!

It was only after I unwrapped the magazine and opened it up that I realized what had happened…a pull-out front cover, in order to use the full horizontal picture. WOW!

Although not all these shots were used in the magazine, these were some of my favorites from the shoot:

Funny thing is that my mandate for the front cover was to shoot a vertical image (obviously) to layout (with space in the top and bottom for text). The lanscape shot I took was THE very first image of the day, at around 6:30 AM. I was mostly taking it because it had to be taken, even though I knew it would not be used. Guess they proved me wrong!

Thanks for looking.

Ride to Conquer Cancer

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

On Thursday, I photographed an event to help promote the Ride to Conquer Cancer. Please visit their web site to get more info on the event and to see how you can get involved.

50ish cyclists gathered at the corner of Rene-Levesque and University to get peoples’ attention and help launch the 2010 edition of the Ride to Conquer Cancer, to be held on July 10-11, 2010. Similar events also happened in Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver.

These devoted cyclists braved the cold and rain (OK…drizzle) to raise awareness for the cause, by raising their bicycles over their heads.

People of all sorts came out to the event. Most brought their own bikes, and some came without, just to be involved. One gentleman felt he absolutely needed a bike to participate, but didn’t have one of his own, so he rented a BIXI to take part. Try raising a BIXI over your head…not an easy task, I’m sure!

Here are a few photos from the event:

Bunch and Yahoo! Quebec in Montreal

Monday, October 19th, 2009

These were taken at a Yahoo! Quebec/Flickr event held during the St-Laurent Street Fair and again at POP Montreal a few weeks ago. My client was Bunch, a group that organises and promotes family events in Toronto and Montreal.  Much fun was had by all!

For these events we setup a Purple Photo Booth (Yahoo!’s colours ya know), and allowed people to dress up with the supplied props and  have their photos taken. Some were serious, some were goofy, but mostly they just had fun.  They would then go online to download their photos. And best of all, it did not cost them a dime!

Mariam was my assistant on this shoot, along with some additional help from Renate, Martin P and Darwin. Thanks guys! Couldn’t have done it without you.

Here’s a little montage I made:

And some of my favorites:

This little girl probably gave us some of the best photos of the two week-ends. Amazing!

You can also see the photos here, along with a few images from other shoots in the same issue. In all, there were 3 features in this latest issue.

Needless to say, I’m stoked! My first cover! (well not actually my first…more on that in a future post)
